Northern Voice 2008 Preview at The Boss - Raincity Chronicles
BlogWith Vancouver personal expression conference Northern Voice approaching, Dave O, Roland Tanglao and Richard Eriksson preview the Internet Boot Camp track at Moose Camp (Friday Feb 22, 2008).
This year at Moose Camp, Richard will present Blogging 101 and Roland (along with Jordan Behan and Warren Frey) will present Video Blogging 101 to go along with the ad hoc track. On Saturday's Northern Voice, Dave will lay out his pitch to encourage the assembled folks to seize the opportunity to make creative endeavours with integrity and not get hung on stats and fleeting noteriety. Then, plates of steaming tasty Cantonese food arrives to the table at The Boss cafe in Vancouver's Chinatown.
Tokyo Ramen and SxSW - Raincity Chronicles
BlogWhile waiting for tasty Japanese Ramen near Yaletown, Raincity Studios' Dave O and Roland Tanglao talk about upcoming plans for the SxSW Music and Interactive fair in Austin, Texas during March 2008.
Topics include proposed booths activities, speaker panels, podcasting station, videocasting experiments, Bruce Sterling's yearly rant, and certainly the NxSW party hosted by Raincity Studios, Blue Flavor and Serverbeach at the Iron Cactus on Monday March 10th at 10:30pm.
See also: "5 minute video cast with DaveO about RCS happenings: Facebook, Shanghai Drupal Group, etc."
PS Gonna try to hook up a podcast with super-blogger docce (and possibly Utah's biggest sh!t disturber since Ed Abbey or Mark Hofman) to talk about her new, Drupal-powered site.
PPS Remember Kris Krug is heading up a panel called "Blame Canda" ~ more on this topic later.
TwinF Shares Their Tech Know-How From Barcelona
BlogCheck out our good friends Lee and Sachi LeFever's blog site as they have just posted a blog entry on their travel blog, The World Is Not Flat, that shares with the internet their ways of blogging while journeying around the world over the last year.
Raincity designed the site, while Bryght provides hosting and support. It's tough checking in on these guys cause we're all green with envy, but following their journeys and living vicariously through them over the last year has been a treat. Thanks for the video sharing show guys!
DrupalCamp Seattle 2006 Video Redux
BlogInspired by Kevin Marks' videos at BloggerCon IV (e.g. Lisa Williams' emotional life session), I took a whole bunch of videos using my 6 year old Canon Elura with the tape taken out (so the camera wouldn't auto shut off) connected to my Powerbook using a Firewire cable using MPEG 4 320x200 15fps with QuickTime Broadcaster recording to my hard disk. Would I do it again? Absolutely! The only thing that was really bad was the audio quality.
Here's what I would do next time:
- Bring my own tripod (I had to borrow one!)
- Fix the audio somehow (only record mono? turn down the gain? attach an external microphone (but then how would I get the whole room? I will definitely experiment beforehand to figure out works best.)
- Monitor every recording. I had a few useless videos because I forgot to record the correct audio channel!
Finally my favourite videos:
- Boris module walkthrough
- Boris' core module explanations (Part 1 and Part 2)
EverythingCasting Tomorrow at Vidfest - I'm presenting with Robert Ouimet
BlogThe very cool Robert Ouimet and I are presenting on EverythingCasting tomorrow at Vidfest at 2:40p.m. at the Dockside pub (it's a reprise and expansion of our VFS DIY podcasting presentation earlier in the year).
What is EverythingCasting? It's a term I stole from my friend Eric Rice (with his permission of course) to encompass promoting yourself, your company, your passion, etc. by putting stuff online in the global online two way web (what some people call 'Web 2.0') very cheaply (e.g. photo blogging with flickr, free blog at Wordpress.com, free podcasting with odeo and free videoblogging with YouTube.com or blip.tv all tied together with Feedburner to make a free online media 'EverythingCasting' presence. At the very least, you should be listening to the two way web whether or not you actively participate!
Why do this? Self promotion and self expression (and to know when people are praising and panning you!). Want to take it to the next level and pay for better service using your own domain name for example? Show up and we'll show you how! Questions and feedback encouraged. We hope to keep this lively and dynamic. See you tomorrow at Granville Island.
