UBC
Blog-ster vs Art-ster
Blog
Having both a fine arts and a new media background, on Feb 21st I attended Moose Camp hosted by Northern Voice at UBC during the day and Fuse at the Vancouver art gallery during the night. It was here I got to observe these two cultures close at hand. Just like Dian Fossey and the Gorillas, I couldn't help but to compare the males of these species.
Northern Voice 2007 - Best yet
Blog
Northern Voice was amazing again this year. I dare say the best ever!
For me as always it was about the people. The unexpected: like connecting with Robin Yap in the Social Media Diaspora Session. Or Second Life super scripter Catherine Winters (wow! yet another demonstration of the world class talent we have here in Vancouver!)

And the expected: Dave Olson, social media rockstar (his 3P's of Podcasting session was superb; it was my favourite of the few I managed to squeeze in between organizing!), vancouver fashion photographer Kris' fantastic photography session. Anil Dash's humbly understated but brilliant keynote on blog persistence and awareness. And so much more.
Northern Voice 2007 - Registration now open
Blog
Northern Voice 2007 Registration is open now! Pre-register and save $10. That's right it's only $30 for a single day and $50 for both days as opposed to $40 for one day and $60 for both days at the door. I bet we'll sell out like last year so pre-registration is recommended. Register now! I am biased since I am one of the organizers but you won't find a better conference value and the attendees are diverse. It's a great stew of technical people and non technical people and people who are new to this read/write web aka Web 2.0 as well as the "old hands".Northern Voice 2007 - can't wait
Blog
UPDATE: Forgot to mention that speaker submissions are open. Submit now! All you need is a well written abstract about a blogging related topic like videoblogging, podcasting, blogging, Second Life, etc.
Northern Voice 2007 is happening again (yes! it's one of my favourite conferences because we welcome and get a very diverse crowd of knitters and other non techie bloggers, video bloggers and podcasters in addition to techies) February 23 and 24, 2007 and Boris, Kris and I are again helping to organize along with the rest of the fabulous crew (Lauren, Cyprien, Darren and Brian)
Drupal powered Vancouver Daily Specials from your phone?
BlogI think it would be great for a learning institution like SFU, UBC, BCIT, etc. or even a mobile social/cultural thinktank like Mobile Muse to get access to the full data and produce some great prototype mobile web apps. Since I love food, I am thinking of a location aware mobile phone app that knows about nearby restaurants courtesy of Navteq's points of interest data. e.g. a location aware daily special mobile app! And of course it coud be easily powered by Drupal :-) !
From Navteq visits WinBC | Roland Tanglao's Weblog.:
QUOTE
Ever wonder what how the data for Google Maps, Yahoo maps, etc. is gathered? Well wonder no more. Navteq, "supplier of world wide map data to the universe" :-), were in town visiting WinBC today and I had the opportunity to do a "Drive and Ride" with them in their specially equipped Pontiac and also to speak with their Vancouver based field personnel as well as their marketing team from headquarters in Chicago:

VIDEO - Robert Gourdine Part 2 - How to get access to the data? Navteq is interested in growing the community of people using their data which I came up with the phrase "enabler for providing smart, dynamic, location based information". Recorded at Win BC on March 16, 2006
