BlogHer: Sooooo Many Blogs To Take In!
Blog
Front Page News in San Jose, "Female Bloggers Revving Up" at BlogHer
Of the women that I met, shared with, learned from, and read about at BlogHer, here's a list of some of the talented bloggers (and vloggers!) of the past, present and future that may be of interest to you to start reading and get to know:
BlogHer 2006
BlogI just spent the last 2 days at BlogHer in San Jose, California. As most conferences go, I met a lot of inspiring and interesting people, all of whom are writing blogs about virtually everything: from recipe blogs, to mommy blogs, to political, to sex blogs. You name it, they're writing it. And of course, it being BlogHER, for the women bloggers of the blogosphere, the crowd was predominantly women. A nice switch from most other conferences where the men normally out number the women 3 to 1. (But that will change and evolve in the not-too-distant future, you can count on it.)
BlogHer: The Power of The Blog
BlogPeople around the world jump at ways to try and help those suffering when major catastrophes strike. Think Hurricane Katrina and the Asian Tsunami. The blogosphere and the blogging network is an essential group and a direct resource to assist in this dimension.
Sara Ford, Grace Davis, and Dina Mehta are three people who we could all take a lot from. These women bloggers used this resource as a means to send aid and information about these natural disasters that helped thousands of people left with nothing.
BlogHer: Building Traffic To Your Blog With Elise Bauer
Blog10,000 Unique Visitors Every Day... Over 1 Million A Year
Elise Bauer gets traffic. Here are some notes on her session about what you can do to build your traffic and keep people coming back.
In building blog traffic, there are 3 major pillars: Content, Community, Technology
Content
- Be either useful, entertaining or timely - nailing them all would be a stellar blog, but if you were to pick and execute just one: USEFUL - information for the present, for the future, for the past.
- It's more important to have quality work than to post more frequently.
- Be intelligent and thoughtful when you write.
- Using images and photographs helps to break up the monotony of the page.
- Write well and concise. It's hard to read long, rambling posts online, so refine your work.
- Consider the headlines and post size. There are two ways to write a title 1. With a link in it 2. Smart and witty
- Include writing about polls, top 10 lists, contest, how-to's, controversial topics.
- Be Excellent - write something that you are proud of, work that is good enough to show the most important people in your life: your family.
- Blog about things you care about A LOT. You have to be passionate about your subject.
