The Canadian Film Centre in Vancouver
A fabulous entourage from the Canadian Film Centre in Toronto came into Vancouver last night for a meet and greet with local film and television talent, sponsors, colleagues and friends.
Lynda Brown and Kirsten Richter from New Media BC invited Kris Krug from Bryght and myself along to reconnect and meet with local and national media folks alike.
While we mingled, popping luscious green olives in our mouths and sucking back some vino, Slawko Klymkiw, executive director of Canadian Film Centre, previously known to many from his days of devotion and excellence with the CBC, glided through the room all smiles, with his highly-known and well documented energy and enthusiasm, ensuring to meet and chat with each person in attendance.
Ana Serrano, director of Habitat is in serious need of video bloggers, bloggers and podcasters alike to help document her latest animation new media project - we think we can help her out with that!!
Executive Director in Sport at Telus, but more so known as the childhood hero to many Canadians, Steve Podborski, was in fine form as well, as we reminisced about our days in Torino this past February and discussed the many positive and negative aspects of the Games in relation to how Vancouver is likely to measure up. More to weigh in on that at a later date!
It was a treat as well to connect with Vancouver music mogul Bruce Allen. We spoke of course about film in Canada and Vancouver, keeping good for the company we were in, but it wasn't too long into the conversation before we launched into the news of the hour: Mark Crawford losing his job and our poor Canucks! Proof that hockey still bonds people together.
Thank you to Kirsten and Lynda for including us in the evening. We're excited that the Canadian Film Centre is striving to have more of a presence on the west coast and we're looking forward to working with more productions in Vancouver down the road.
