The Lowdown on jQuery in Drupal - Part Three

Blog

Drupal jQuery Ninja

Update on jQuery Update

First off, a slightly overdue update: jQuery Update module for Drupal 5 has been released with jQuery 1.2.6 (the current version!). Thanks to all who took the reigns on that one, especially Steve McKenzie, who took on co-maintainership, and sun, who pushed this rc1 release. I believe all known bugs that the new jQuery caused in core js files, such as upload.js, collapse.js and others, have been totally ironed out but of course jQuery-enhanced contrib modules are another matter entirely. I found out the hard way that the upgrade to 1.2.6 totally breaks TinyMCE which unfortunately is a module that is not receiving much love these days from its maintainer. Not to get too far off-topic but there is a new WYSIWYG controller and API/framework module called Wysiwig being developed by sun and quicksketch, the goal of which is "to provide generic hooks to implement contrib module plugins with content editors", so it sounds like TinyMCE module's days are numbered anyway.

Gone Fishing - Raincity Studios' Vancouver office closed from June 28 ~ July 6 Shanghai Studio keeps rolling

Blog

Twice a year, the Raincity Studios Vancouver team turn off their laptops, relax their weary fingers, and refresh their brains with a week away from the bustle of the Gastown studio. Our next sojourn occurs from June 28 to July 6.

If there are urgent items on your agenda, please let us know promptly so we can serve you best before the break as your phone calls will likely go unanswered and emails will pile up a bit during this time.

Our colleagues at the Raincity Studios Shanghai office will still be working (don't worry they gets breaks too!) and tending to the needs of our beloved clients so fear not.

The Bryght hosting support staff will still feed and water the servers and monitor urgent support requests so you can pack your worries away while the Vancouver squad replenish ourselves with intellectual and recreation pursuits.

Question, comments, concerns? Drop us a note via the contact centre.

Thank you for your support!

Robert Scales, Kris Krug, and the Raincity Studios team ...

PS Will you miss us? Consider exploring the Raincity Studios blog and podcasts archive, or signing up to your local Drupal Group to get your fill of geekery in our absence.

Open Source CMS News Round-up - Drupal, Wordpress, Joomla etc.

Blog

You probably saw all of these articles already but ... in case you missed any ... get comfy, pour a beverage and do some reading about Open Source CMSs in the news:

Drupal and The Future of News

Drupal 5 Minute booth

Tech writer Kurt Cagle from Open Source Pixels {cribbed article bio: managing editor of XML.com, lives in Victoria, British Columbia, and is beginning to wonder what happened to summer - Ed note: Ditto on the summer ;-)} offers a wide-ranging narrative about his experiences with Drupal, (including a name-check of Bryght/Raincity Studios) in his June 1, 2008 article. Well worth a read for his interesting historical and technical perspectives.

Kung Fu SEO: How to Optimize Your Site in Chinese

Blog

Watched the movie Kung Fu Panda in iMax theater (with a screen of 5-floor high), had an iLove HeroHOT hotpot and I turned 27. A bit blu but a bit happy.

SEO in Chinese is a bit different, there are 2 major search engines to optimize: Baidu and Google China. I dont care for the moment whether Baidu will defeat Google China or vise versa, but what if you are gonna deliver a product in a few months? both of them occupies a good share of the market so you have to consider both to get your site propergandaed.

Unfortunately they are using different, if not completely different, logics.
