Podcasting for Social Change - A Net Tuesday All-Star Panel with DaveO
Blog
Here is your chance to see Raincity Studios' DaveO in action. It's all happening at Net Tuesday 4 - Podcasting for Social change, Tuesday July 8th at 5:30pm.
DaveO will be heading up and moderating a presentation on the art of podcasting: how to make a show; the benefits of micro-broadcasting; promoting your show; and how podcasting can spread your social change message.
The all-star panel features mobile guru, Roland Tanglao (also from Raincity Studios), John Bollwitt (audio engineer, and podcaster from RadioZoom and Crazy Canucks) and Rob Cottingham (social change technologist, humourist and Bedtime podcaster).
DaveO made a quickie video to get everyone excited about the presentation - check it out:

Almost Live Blog from Vancouver High-tech Communicator's Exchange
BlogWell, alas no FreetheNet here at the YWCA on Beatty Downtown Vancouver so will limp along with the delayed coverage of Kris Krug and Rob Cottingham's spiel to a crowded room of PR and Marketing minded peeps.
6:31
Okay, the intros are starting at the Vancouver High-Tech Communicator's Exchange meeting. VHCE HTCE are an organization with about 440 people on the contact list and they put on events inexpensively, run by volunteers, with top notch speakers form the community.
6:33
HTCE Members get a discount on Darren Barefoot and Julie Szabo's book "Getting to First Base" a contemporary guide to savvy marketing.
6:34
Upcoming events focus on convergence, lead generation (getting sales and marketing working together) and more workshops to help these PR pros get new media savvy.
6:35
Lovely intro for Kris (he has a great speechwriter ;-)) - ditto for Rob (who came recommended from Darren Barefoot who's garnered 3 mentions already despite being in Morocco).
Rob and cohort Alex are top notch strategic consultants as Social Signal. Pro speech writer Rob doubles as a funny guy - stand up and comic writer - he has a cold to go with his dry and intelligent sense of humor

I wave hello as they introduce me as the token citizen journalist (that's me on the floor in the front).
Raincity'll be Taking Northern Voice by Storm
Blog
In the seemingly endless stream of meet-ups, conferences, un-events, random occurrences and edu-tainment of all kinds, there is one event which reigns supreme and I posit is Vancouver's must-go
event.
Anyone interested in: a) social media creation, b) meeting collaborators in an unpretentious environment, c) good times - should really show up for both days.

BlogI Found The Perfect Place To Talk Hockey, Beer & e-Commerce
Last week I spent a bit of my Friday afternoon with Dave Olson and Jason Billingsley at Elastic Path, an e-commerce software company based here in Vancouver.
Raincity is currently building Elastic Path's new Drupal site, set to launch in a few weeks, so I thought it'd be a good idea to check out their digs, say hello to the team and have a little software chat in their schwanky-ish entertainment room.... and of course we spoke a little hockey-talk a tad as well, and why the hell not? 'Tis the season.
