Hop on the Drupal Camp Victoria Bus

Blog
Drupal Camp Victoria shirt

In the wake of Gnomedex, we're rallying up a crew of Vancouver Drupal geeks heading across the Georiga Strait to Vancouver Island to commune with our Drupal colleagues for another camp.

This shindig is organized by the fun-loving NorthStudio.com crew and The Victoria School of Business and Technology plus feature what's sure to be an excellent field trip to the Great Canadian Beer Fest.

As Boris pointed out in his recent How Drupal Can Help Change The World spiel, beer and Drupal seem to go hand in hand. Is that what make the modules so tasty? For those less lubriciously inclined, the NS crew are also setting up movie night.

On the Magic Bus at Gnomedex

With the remnants of Drupal Camp Vancouver coffers, and the organization and driving skills of Ryan Dempsey, many of the Vancouver contingent are riding over in a big ole van.

Now i doubt that it will get quite as *magic* as the web archive company Iterasi's Gnomedex Magic Bus with the sage-like Nat at the wheel taking the assembled geeks on a magical mystery tour of hi-jinks, but I am confident a rollicking ferry ride to the kick off party - followed by (not too early) solid sessions of peer education on Friday and Saturday - will be a winner!

How about you? Are you on the Drupal Camp Victoria bus?

The Deets:

  • September 5th (~8:30AM to ~4:00PM)
  • September 6th (~9:00AM to ~5:00PM)
  • @ Gateway Village 301 - 771 Vernon Ave. Victoria BC.
    Get Directions
  • Cost: FREE, Yes Free as in nada, zip, zilch

Moving on, Booting up, Changing the World

It was great to sit down with DaveO on the podcast and talk over a wide arc of experiences I've had in the past 4+ years. In case it wasn't clear from the audio (I do have some extended liner notes on my personal site), I'm finishing up my time at Raincity Studios.

After the sale of Bryght back in November / December and 6 months of transition work, I've moved on to work on my new startup, Bootup Labs, full time.

The Boris in Repose

That's not to say that I'm leaving Raincity Studios behind completely. I'm still an advisor to the company, focusing especially on products and services related to hosting and the Bryght Light service. We've got some new services that I'm really excited about seeing launch, from server hosting in Canada to Aegir mass hosting for all VPS customers to some interesting computing integration.

Vancouver (and beyond) Tech Community Update

Gnomedex approaches

Marc Canter takes a snooze at Gnomedex

The almost-legandary geekfest is a single-track extravaganza where you can screen drop on Dave Winer, party with Marc Cantor and schmooze the people making the Internet (and other revolutions) with their bare hands.

Chris and Ponzi cultivate an "everyone's a VIP vibe" with parties, conversations and great food. Krug shares photography tips on Friday and will be snapping throughout the event.

Bonus: It's Geeky Fun! (song by Derek K. Miller).
Tip: Get in front of KK's lens to get the best profile pics ever.

SXSW Panel Picker Open for Voting - Pick a Winner

Blog

Time for Voting!

Teh Panelz by Randy StewartThe crowd-sourcing portion of the panel-selection for SXSW Interactive 2009 (scheduled March 13-17, 2009 in Austin, Texas) is underway.

The SXSW online panel picker is open for voting and commenting and you are invited (indeed encouraged) to sign-up (you know the drill) and vote for your the panels you think are most useful.

You don't have to be an attendee or planning to attend to vote - just be someone who's you know, interested. Questions about all this SXSW panel stuff? Check the SXSW Panel FAQ.

Stepping up

As the risk of shameless promotion, the topics listed here all seek to deliver solid practical skills along with discourse on the fundamental issues and the details.

If you have questions/comments/curiosities about the pitches, please consider leaving a comment on the SXSW panel picker - sure it takes an extra few moments but will help the selected panelists hone their messages if they are indeed picked. Also offering props publicly helps spread the voting goodness.

Do you have an awesome panel in the mix? Drop a comment and let's get the vote out!
