Home From Gnomedex
BlogBack in Vancouver for a week after a few days in Seattle at Gnomedex. Gnomedex is a secret club of uber geeks that gets together once a year to hang, chill, chat, chest beat, network, share, and collaborate. Or something. It's put on by friends Chris and Ponzi and draws a great group of nerds, dorks, and geeks from around the globe. I got the chance to hang with lots of old friends like Ethan, Lee, Mark, Dave, Darren, Scott, Schlomo, and Jay and met lots of new ones like Guy, Cali, Jacob, Molly, and others. Here's some of my pics from the event.
Gnomedex 2007: Round-up and Review
BlogBeing the newest runt at Raincity Studios, and a first time Gnomedex'er, I came into the event not knowing what to expect. Thursday was filled with booze driven conversation and much needed socializing. It was a great icebreaker and had the chance to meet some great people. Friday started with an early morning start with Robert Steele leading discussion that was far too extremist for my liking.
Darren Barefoot gave a brilliant, and much needed, follow-up speech where he coined the term 'Stacies' for the cost of food to feed one homeless person. I really enjoyed the value of his talk and hope that we can all start doing similar deeds throughout our own communities. I can sure relate to it from commuting through the Downtown East Side each day.
Gnomedex 6 Was A Hit!
BlogLast week the Bryght guys went down to Seattle for our second Gnomedex in Seattle put on by friends Chris and Ponzi. We saw lots of our geek peeps and a great time was had by all. The event was keynoted by John Edwards who was there to make connections with the blogging community and hear and learn about technology (I got my pic taken with him by Ted Leung backstage... w00t!).
My favorite talks were by Ethan Kaplan and Philip Kaplan (not related). Ethan works at Warner Brothers Records and talked about the future of music and the sales/marketing/distribution machine that propels it. Phillip runs AdBright and started FuckedCompany and gave an engaging chat about promotions and building buzz.
Pirillo's Pitch: TagJag!
Blog
The Big Pitch
TagJag is the new name to Pirillo's metasearch engine, Gada.be. It will be the same easy-to-query from a mobile device engine, but will prove to be easier for folks to remember and type in.
We loved the pitch and rooting for Chris through his self-proclaimed anxiety was easy to do - Go Chris! And the asking price: $600 G's.
