Open Source in Asia

Raincity Studios opened a Shanghai office in November 2007 with 5 employees with plans to grow throughout 2008-2009. The Raincity Shanghai House is located in the heart of the French Concessions, on Xiangyang Rd near Huaihai Rd.

The Shanghai Regional Office provides Sales and Consulting, Development, Support and Training Services to our Asian clients. The Shanghai team will work side by side with the Vancouver Head Office to help provide better support to our international clients.

The Shanghai office's mandate is to work closely with the various Chinese open source communities and expand Drupal in Asia. With this in mind, we co-host DrupalCamps in Shanghai and aim to hold the first Drupal Conference in Asia in 2009.

Robert Scales, Raincity's CEO - along with Kris Krug and other community friends - organized and hosted knowledge-transfer including Barcamps in Shanghai and Beijing, plus Drupal meet-ups, and blogging events. Beginning in 2005, Scales and Krug have worked to build Raincity Studios' Asian regional network to prepare for doing business in a new culture.

Scales is currently living in Shanghai where he's learning Mandarin and working with the Vancouver and regional teams. He can occasionally be found hanging out at the various temples when not traveling to, or speaking at, events around the world.
