In this session, the participants were divided into 5 groups and given a design challenge: To come up with some solutions to improve the user experience of people at gas stations/convenient store for a made up oil company.

We then had 2 hours to brainstorm and come up with new ideas to solve the problems placed before us.

This opening workshop was a great mix of inspiration, collaborative work, improv and ran in all good fun.

I was part of a team of 8 individuals, including Steve Szoczei, Steve Portigal, Avi Soudack , Kerri Worth, Jon Tirmandi, Jerome Ryckborst and John Trottier. The Steves took on leadership early on and guided us through the brainstorming session and usability assessment.

Too little time, to many ideas, not everyone on the same page led to an interesting dilemma: after 2 hours, all we had where a set of 7 flowchart pages filled with conflictive ideas some of which where mine.

Avi looking mighty serious!

Did we have any solutions to offer? Yes, but even I can’t answer that question!

It will be interesting to see how our team will present this messy proposal after dinner and hear what the other teams have come up with.
